Maneri: Rape accused arrested, sent to jail

Acting on the strict directive from the superintendent of police, Uttarkashi, Kamlesh Upadhyay, the Maneri police arrested a rape accused and sent him to jail on court orders.
According to information received, a young woman filed a complaint at Maneri police station in October, accusing a young man of raping and impregnating her under the pretext of marriage. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case against the accused under Section 69 of BNS and began an investigation.
Given the seriousness of the case, the SP directed Maneri police to arrest the accused immediately and bring him under legal procedure.
A police officer, privy to the probe details, said that based on the statements of the survivor, witnesses, and available evidence, they had added Section 64 BNS (rape) to the case.
“Thereafter, the Maneri police arrested the accused on Thursday from near the Maneri Falls. After being produced before the court, the accused was sent to judicial custody,” said the sub- inspector Himani Pawar, who is a member of the police team investigating the case.
