Filmmaker Leena Manimekalai and ten other members of her team have been booked in Haridwar’s Kankhal police station area over the controversial poster of the documentary film ‘Kaali’.
Kankhal police station in-charge Mukesh Chauhan said that a case has been registered on the complaint of national general secretary (Organisation) of Hindu Yuva Vahini, Vikram Singh Rathore. A case has been registered against producer Manimekalai, assistant producer Asha Ponachan and others in the team under IPC section 295 (hurting religious sentiments) for outraging religious sentiments, he said.
It will be recalled that the poster of the documentary film has elicited controversy and strong objections since its release in the recent past. The poster depicts a woman dressed as the goddess Kali smoking. Along with this, an LGBTQ flag is also seen in her hands. In the recent past, members of the religious fraternity in Haridwar had also called for strict action in the case.
