In latest news from Doon, dealing a body blow to the Congress in Uttarakhand ahead of the Lok Sabha election, Manish Khanduri– son of the former chief minister Bhuwan Chandra Khanduri and brother of the assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan- has quit the party. To recall, he joined the Congress before the 2019 and contested unsuccessfully from the Pauri constituency.
Though he cited no reason behind his resignation from the grand old party the political observers ascribe it to his growing disillusionment with the way the Congress is being run. The political circles are abuzz with speculation that he is joining the BJP and might be nominated by the saffron party for the Pauri seat. Importantly, the saffron brass has not announced the name of its candidate for the Pauri seat though the names of three candidates out of five seats were declared a few days ago. Before Manish’s resignation, the name of Anil Baluni was doing the rounds as a BJP probable for the Pauri seat. A political watcher said that if Manish is given the nomination by the BJP it would herald new equations in the party folds. “It means that the greenhorns are being preferred to old horses in the saffron politics,” said the observer.
