Emerging long distance runner Mansi Negi has brought laurels to the country by winning the bronze medal in the 20 kilometre walk event in the World University Games being held in Chengdu, China. Her coach Anoop Bisht said that she is studying at a private university in Chandigarh and is in China to participate in the World University Games. Mansi along with Pooja Kumawat, Nikita Lamba and Priyanka represented the country in the event. The quartet finished with a time of 5:12:13 to clinch the bronze medal. Host China won the gold medal while the girls of Slovakia secured silver medal in the event.
A native of Chamoli district, Mansi shot to limelight when she won gold medal in 10,000 metre walk event in the 37th National Junior Athletics championship in Guwahati during November last year.
Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has congratulated Mansi Negi for her feat. In a message to the athlete on social media platform he said that the county is proud of her achievement. He also wished her for a bright future.
