Sunday, 07 April 2024 | PNS | DEHRADUN

With less than a week left for the Eid-ul–Fitr celebrations, shoppers from the Muslim community are flocking to the city’s major markets like the Paltan Bazaar, Jhanda Bazaar and others to shop for Eid. Local shopkeepers have witnessed a surge in the number of customers preparing for Eid over the past week. Additionally, they have begun extending their business hours till late at night to accommodate the increased demand. Many women from the Muslim community are particularly visible in the markets, purchasing new clothes and footwear for the Eid celebrations.

Local resident Farhana Khan said that she had purchased three dresses for Eid. She said that people wait for an entire year to celebrate this day with fervour. She has started shopping for Eid and will continue shopping for dresses, jewellery, food items and other products in the coming days, Khan added.

“This year, I plan on buying fabric from the market and make my own Eid dresses. I enjoy celebrating Eid by wearing different styles of clothes every year. This year I started shopping for Eid one week before its celebration,” said another local resident Naza Zaid.

Commenting about the sales of clothes, a local shopkeeper Dhaman Singh said that shoppers for Eid have been thronging the market for a week prior to the event. He said that during the month of Ramzan, the sale of clothes increased significantly, as the Muslim community makes the occasion memorable by purchasing new clothes. Further, he added that Muslim women have just started buying heavy work clothing for Eid. In light of this, he emphasised that to increase sales and make it more convenient for working customers, he has extended the business hours of his shop.
