Inspiration from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Digital India campaign has notably transformed wedding traditions in India, leading to a significant shift towards digitalisation. Traditionally, individuals would print physical wedding invitations to invite their guests; however, with the passage of time and the growing acceptance of digital solutions, wedding invitations have increasingly become digital. This trend has caused concern among local printers of wedding invitations and other event cards due to a noticeable decline in their business

Regarding this, a printing shop owner Vinay Jaggi said that the adoption of digitalisation has permeated various aspects of life, including weddings and funerals. Previously, customers frequently visited their shop for printing wedding cards, but over the past two to three years, residents of Dehradun have observed a decreasing demand for printed invitations as there has been a marked shift toward digital invitation cards and videos shared online with friends and family.

The recent trend among individuals regarding digital wedding invitations can be attributed to factors such as affordability and ease of access. Additionally, it has been observed that this shift has significantly impacted the business of wedding card printers, including him.

“From October to December, my wedding card printing business experienced an 80 per cent increase compared to typical periods in past years. However, over time, there has been a noticeable movement towards digital options. Some individuals create their own wedding cards using free applications, while others request digital wedding cards from us,” stated another wedding card printer Umesh Rawat.

He further noted that as a consequence of this trend, there has been a decline in the sale of traditional wedding cards, which has adversely affected their financial performance.
