Several people feared trapped under debris

In latest Uttarakhand news, with rain fury still wreaking havoc in the State, a massive landslide occurred in the taxi parking space on New Tehri Road near Chamba police station in Tehri district. At least three members of a family have been buried under the debris. Besides, several cars parked there have also been buried under the rubble. The public toilet and several houses have been damaged as per information received. The rescue and relief operations are underway. The Tehri district magistrate who rushed to the incident site along with the SSP directed the officers concerned to keep ambulances and choppers ready for emergency. Immediately on receiving the information, the teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and police rushed to the site and started rescue operation. Six JCBs are being used to clear the site of the debris. The houses near the landslide-affected area have been evacuated and the DM asked the SDM to arrange temporary accommodation for those evacuated.
