The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ conducted a cleanliness campaign in Arcadia I ward on the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on Sunday. The mayor carried out sanitation works like sweeping streets and picking up trash to dispose of in dustbins. He also removed silt from drains along with some sanitation workers and locals. Later, he also interacted with locals who talked about their issues including encroachment and sanitation.

The mayor contacted the officials concerned and directed them to take cognisance of the issues as soon as possible. The mayor said that he has been conducting and participating in three-hour cleanliness campaigns every weekend under the Swachchh Ward Sundar Doon campaign to raise awareness among locals to maintain cleanliness in the city. However, he added, the campaign on the occasion of the birth anniversary of the former PM makes it more meaningful for locals and helps them to connect with the real intention of the campaign.

He said that though the MCD has been making consistent efforts to improve sanitation conditions across the city, active public participation is also necessary to bring drastic changes in cleanliness practices. He said that he is optimistic that such cleanliness campaigns will help the city to motivate citizens and get the city into the top 50 cleanest cities in the country in Swachchh Survekshan 2023.
