Saturday, 01 January 2022 | PNS | Dehradun

The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ has extended the period of 20 per cent rebate on property tax by two months.  The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has collected the property tax of over Rs 22.50 crore in the past nine months while it had set the goal to collect Rs 50 crore this financial year.  About 45 per cent of this revenue has been collected through digital payment methods which was hardly 10 per cent till last year. The municipal commissioner Abhishek Ruhela informed that the corporation is presently trying to collect the tax of at least over Rs 40 crore as the corporation’s premises were not open for tax submission for months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that the corporation has already sent bills to over 10,000 commercial taxpayers and will send more this month. He added that the MCD is yet to receive the property tax of over Rs 10 crore from many government buildings and the tax section will send them bills too. The mayor also extended the period of the rebate on Friday from January 1 to February 28 for the locals and informed that the MCD will conduct camps for tax collection from January too. “People mostly tend to deposit the property tax in the last months of the financial year but I appeal to the locals to deposit it soon to get the benefit of the rebate as it would not be extended again,” said the mayor.
