The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ conducted a surprise inspection of the light section in the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Thursday after receiving several complaints of irregularities in the maintenance of street lights in several wards.
Many locals of various localities along with several councillors have complained to the mayor and the MCD officials that street lights on many routes and lanes do not work regularly causing problems to many at night, especially during monsoon and winter. According to them, the officials concerned do not listen to complaints despite their repeated appeals to check the lights. Considering this, the mayor conducted a surprise inspection on Thursday and checked several files. He also conducted a meeting with the officials of the light section after the inspection to discuss the issues and current progress on street lights of the city. Moreover, many councillors have also complained to the mayor consistently about the delay in installation and repairing work of LED street lights in their respective wards by EESL Company which is outsourced by the corporation for installation and maintenance of street lights across the city. The mayor said that it has been brought to his notice that the company concerned has not been efficient enough to handle the works as per the agreement due to which, the MCD officials have to face the wrath of locals and the councillors. Considering this, the company’s official Rahul Singh has been asked to submit a report on the matter concerned immediately to ensure MCD can take appropriate action on the matter, said ‘Gama’. He also added that the officials have been warned to take immediate action on each complaint received on a daily basis or strict action will be taken against them for not doing their jobs.
