The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ has directed the officials concerned on Friday to take action against the encroachment of roads in Karnpur area near DBS and DAV PG colleges that lead to daily traffic issues. The mayor has been conducting and participating in three-hour cleanliness campaigns every Friday, Saturday and Sunday since last month under Swachchh Ward Sundar Doon in three wards. On this Friday, he participated in the cleanliness campaign of DBS and DAV PG colleges in Karnpur area along with sanitation workers and was also later joined by Rajpur Road MLA Khajan Das, some college students and professors. The mayor carried out sanitation works like sweeping inside the premises, picked up the trash. He also swept Karnpur market area and removed silt from drains with sanitation workers and locals. The locals also complained to him about encroachment of roads by vendors and others that causes daily traffic issues to students as well as local people in the area. The officials of the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) imposed penalties on some vendors encroaching the roadside area on the directions of the mayor. He also directed the officials concerned to take action against the encroachment in the area and impose hefty fines if somebody returns to encroach the land again after a warning.
