Mayor scraps tax contracts, pivots to RFID sanitation tracking

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/ Kashipur

Kashipur Municipal Corporation is overhauling its tax collection system by cancelling external contracts and having its own employees collect taxes, Mayor Deepak Bali announced. He clarified that previously fixed tax rates will remain unchanged. “Following discussions with officials and councillors, we decided to make the system more transparent in response to complaints regarding tax slabs,” Bali added.

Addressing a press conference, the mayor further stated that there would no longer be a need to issue a new tender for collecting the Tehbazari fee. “The Municipal Corporation will carry out this work through its own employees. The fee rates and prescribed slabs will soon be made public to help traders have a clear understanding of the fees they will pay. Action will be taken if any employee tasked with collection complains of misconduct,” he said.

He laid special stress on improving sanitation. “We have been working hard to enhance the system. Given shortage of sanitation inspectors, the government has provided four Sis.  We will not compromise on this matter,” he stated.

When told of the weekly markets held across the city causing traffic snarl and disruption, the mayor assured action. Notably, his attention was drawn to the traffic chaos caused by the weekly market near Ramlila Maidan, on stretch to Aliganj Road and also on Sugar Factory Road.

The issue of shops spilling onto the road at some locations disrupting traffic, and movement of dump trucks at night on Sugar Factory Road, along with the lack of adequate street lighting, was also raised. The mayor stated that the civic body officials are monitoring these matters. “Things will improve,” he assured.

He further said that the RFID system would monitor garbage collection in the city. “We are preparing to integrate technology into the sanitation system.  Our next priority is implementation of the RFID system,” he said.

Sharing details, he said that RFID tags would be installed on homes, institutions and commercial establishments. “These tags will allow the control room to monitor whether garbage collection vehicles have reached their designated locations and whether garbage has been collected on time. Application of this technology will improve sanitation monitoring and help determine responsibility for negligence,” he said.
