The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is hoping to meet its property tax collection target with the rebate and facilities it has provided. The corporation has incorporated rebates and expanded digital facilities for citizens to pay property tax conveniently. These measures are doing their bit at a time when about Rs 45 crore has been collected in property tax against a target of Rs 75 crore in the current financial year.

Assistant municipal commissioner Vinay Pratap Singh said that the MCD’s house tax target for 2025–26 is Rs 75 crore with collections reaching about Rs 45 crore so far. To bridge the gap, the MCD is counting on the rebate and expanded digital payment options, including a WhatsApp-based house tax payment system designed for convenience of the public. The MCD had announced a 20 per cent rebate on property tax for residents who pay by January 31 aiming to encourage timely payments and strengthen revenue collection. “The initiative is yielding results with nearly Rs two crore being collected through WhatsApp payments alone.”

Officials believe that the combination of rebates and easy online payments will accelerate collections, helping the corporation move closer to its revenue target before the financial year ends.
