MCD approaches police in alleged fraudulent death certificate case

PNS | DEHRADUN

The Dehradun chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna registered a police complaint against a man who allegedly provided false information to the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) to obtain a death certificate. Khanna said that a complaint was filed by a Dehradun resident Radheshyam on June 23, 2024, claiming that false information was provided to MCD to obtain a death certificate of his father Ram Sahai. He said, “The certificate in question, with registration number 1-2022: 5-90170-008216, was issued on November 23, 2022, for the deceased Ram Sahai, son of Ganesh, who allegedly passed away on June 19, 1988.

However, discrepancies emerged when Radheshyam presented documents indicating that the deceased had died on December 3, 1988, at Miyawala in Dehradun, with the last rites performed by a registered organisation in Haridwar, not in Dehradun. Further inspection of the documents submitted by Manmohan Singh, the original applicant, showed inconsistencies, including incorrect death dates and funeral locations. The investigation led to the revocation of the death certificate based on a report dated October 10, 2024, issued by the municipal birth and death registration clerk.”

He said that such discrepancies damage the credibility of the MCD and to prevent future occurrences, a preliminary report has been filed with the Kotwali police in Dhamawala, Paltan Bazaar, seeking legal action against those responsible. “We have asked the police to take strict action against the guilty party. We are dedicated to maintaining the integrity of the municipal registration system,” he added.
