MCD awaits GO to start anti-plastic campaign

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is awaiting the State Government’s order to start anti-plastic campaign against the use of single-use plastic which has increased extensively since Covid-19 pandemic hit the State last year.

Though the State Government has taken the decision to reinstate plastic ban in Uttarakhand, no GO has been received by the MCD so far as per the municipal commissioner, Vinay Shankar Pandey. According to him, the corporation will start an awareness campaign for a few days among locals, street vendors and small shopkeepers and subsequently, penalty will be imposed on everyone using single-use plastic. “Currently, we are running cleanliness drive and raising awareness among locals for not littering and dumping garbage in public places.

We have also started playing audio messages to restrict the use of single-use plastic through the garbage collecting vehicles. Once the corporation will receive the GO from the State government, we will commence a proper anti-plastic campaign in the city,” stated Pandey.
