MCD awaits State Government’s approval for construction of wedding points
The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is still waiting for the nod of the State Government to begin the process of the construction of several wedding points in the city.
In the last board meeting in January, the Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ had announced that the MCD would construct several wedding points in the city which will generate revenue for the corporation and the local can use them on reasonable rates for wedding and other functions as well. However, the officials stated that the project of making commercial establishments like wedding points got delayed for several months due to Covid-19 pandemic.
They further informed that the corporation has sent a proposal to the State Government in October regarding the construction of wedding venues as well as smart vending zones in Dehradun. The municipal tax superintendent Vinay Pratap Singh stated that the corporation has sent the proposal to the government and when the MCD will get the approval, the further process like floating the tenders will be initiated. He also added that the corporation is still collecting data about the active local vendors in the city so that the construction of smart vending zones can be planned accordingly. It is noteworthy that according to mayor ‘Gama’, the construction of such commercial establishments will provide employment to thousands of people in the city besides facilitating the locals in their family functions.
