MCD board meeting today, major decisions expected

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is set to conduct its first full-fledged board meeting after about two years on Tuesday. While the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected mayor and 100 councillors last month was considered the first official meeting of the board, this meeting marks the first proper session since the previous one held two years ago. Of the 100 councillors, 56 are first-time representatives, making this their first board meeting.

The Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal stated that he has received numerous proposals from councillors regarding key civic issues such as sanitation, street lighting and drainage. Many of these concerns have been incorporated into the meeting’s agenda, he said.he informed that in addition to addressing pressing civic matters, the board will also discuss development projects that have been stalled for the past two years. Thapliyal assured that all relevant proposals will be presented and deliberated upon.

The Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal also informed that the board will also consider the formation of guidelines for the proper disposal of waste generated by dairies, slaughterhouses and meat sellers, as these issues have been repeatedly raised by councillors. Another key topic on the agenda is the establishment of a crematorium for animals to ensure the proper disposal of carcasses, as many dump dead animals in public spaces or remote areas, she said.

The officials and councillors opined that with a packed agenda addressing both long-standing and immediate civic concerns, the board meeting is expected to approve some crucial proposals and make substantial decisions which will significantly improve the ongoing condition of the city.
