Although the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) could not achieve its initial target of collecting property tax of Rs 60 crore in the financial year 2023-24, it came very close to the target by collecting Rs 57 crore. The MCD broke last year’s record of collecting maximum property tax collection by a municipal body in the State. The corporation kept the tax section open even on weekends and public holidays for the last two weeks to ensure maximum property tax collection.

The corporation collected about Rs three crore on these holidays including about Rs 50 lakh on Sunday, the municipal tax superintendent Poonam Rawat. She said that their target is always to ensure property tax collection increases every year and they have been consistently achieving it for the past three years. The people deposited tax through online and offline mode during holidays. In the past five days, MCD received about Rs five crores.

The tax collection will certainly increase in the new financial year 2024- 25, Rawat said. She also informed that the property tax submission website will remain inactive from April 1 to 5 due to software update for the tax submission in the new financial year. Due to this, no property tax submission work will be done on MCD premises, she added.
