MCD conducts property tax checks, 50 new taxpayers added

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) added 50 new property tax payers to its list during the door to door campaign to boost property tax collection in the city on Saturday. The MCD is conducting a ward-wise verification of properties that were not paying property tax following directions from the municipal commissioner Namami Bansal.
The MCD has collected about Rs 51 crore in revenue so far during the current financial year. The annual tax collection target has been set at Rs 75 crore. Assistant municipal commissioner Vinay Pratap said that during the verification drive, a total of 568 properties were inspected across different wards of the city. Out of these, 50 new properties were identified and brought under the property tax net. The corporation has also prepared a list of major property tax defaulters and issued notices asking them to clear their pending dues. Officials warned that strict action may be taken if the dues are not deposited within the stipulated time. According to the civic body, a total of Rs 16.09 lakh was collected as property tax on Saturday.
To facilitate taxpayers, the municipal corporation office will remain open on Sundays and other holidays this month, allowing property owners to visit the office and pay their property taxes easily.
