Following the State administration’s order to take effective preventive measures against the spread of dengue, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) claimed that it destroyed larvae of Aedes mosquitoes in 31 vulnerable locations in the city on Wednesday. The municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal has divided 100 wards into 12 sectors to properly carry out works like fogging and spraying of larvicide efficiently under the supervision of respective sector officers. The sanitation teams under these sector officers carried out a campaign in 31 vulnerable locations of 17 wards that include Adhoiwala, Niranjanpur, Lakkhibagh, Patelnagar and Dhamawala, among others. Besides this, the teams also collected a fine of Rs 27,300 from establishments where they found larvae of mosquitoes. Goyal said that such campaigns will be carried out regularly in affected and vulnerable areas. He also issued instructions to the officials of the sanitation section and asked them to ensure they followed them religiously.  He directed the chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna to arrange 10 tractor mounted spray machines to spray larvicide in drains, drains and all such places in 20 wards every day from Thursday onwards. He also directed all sector officers to go to their respective areas daily along with the sanitation inspectors of the wards to inspect the vulnerable locations to destroy the larvae besides taking disciplinary action against the guilty parties. He asked them to take all possible measures to prevent the spread of dengue. He also appealed to locals to keep the premises of their house, office or any establishment clean to prevent it from becoming a breeding place for mosquitoes. “If anybody observes accumulated water or a place where Aedes mosquito larvae are found, they must inform MCD to help us in the fight of prevention of dengue,” said the commissioner.
