The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has directed sanitation workers to scan the QR Codes installed at the entry and exit points of local residential colonies to monitor the door to door garbage collection service. The officials instructed this after the workers complained of a delay in the door to door service due to the scanning procedure.
Earlier this year, the Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) had installed 25,000 QR codes as a pilot project to track the movement of garbage collecting vehicles. However, when the corporation asked the sanitation workers to regularly scan the codes, they called it a time-consuming task that lengthens the garbage collection process in the city.
Considering this, the chief municipal health officer Dr Kailash Joshi has directed them to scan the code outside the first house, last house and one of the houses in the mid of a colony to ensure that the garbage is being collected in a certain area. He said that most of the sanitation workers are not comfortable with the use of technology to scan the codes due to which it takes a considerable amount of time for them to scan each home. Due to this, we have asked them to scan the QR codes at entry and exit points to verify their visits to their respective areas, added Joshi. He also appealed to the public to register their complaints in the corporation if the door to door service is not regular in their respective areas to ensure efficient waste management in the city.
