MCD drive continues against road encroachment by construction materials

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has launched a month-long special enforcement drive from February 1, targeting road encroachments caused by the construction materials stored across the city.

The civic officials stated that the residents undertaking house construction or renovation are being penalised for placing materials on the roads, such as sand, gravel, bricks, iron rods and debris, which obstruct traffic movement while increasing the risk of accidents.

Under the campaign, challans have been issued in several areas of the city, including Haridwar Bypass, Kargi, Mathrowala, Rajpur Road, GMS Road, Panditwari and Ring Road. The civic body claimed that the enforcement teams are conducting regular inspections and the drive would be expanded to other parts of the city.

The officials stated that a fine of up to Rs 2,000 per day is being imposed on violators. The penalty may continue daily until the construction materials are removed from public roads.

The civic body has urged residents to store construction materials within their premises and avoid using public roads for storage, warning that strict penal action would continue against defaulters.
