MCD extends 20 % rebate period for property tax

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has approved a six-day extension period for 20 percent rebate in the property tax on Tuesday. Recently when the period of the extended rebate ended on Monday, the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ did not extend it further. However, many counsellors and the members of business associations approached the municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey on Tuesday and requested for further rebate extension. “We extended the period of rebate many times to encourage locals to deposit the property tax.  March 15 was the last date of the extension but since some councillors and local businessmen requested to extend the rebate extension. Considering this we have extended it till March 21,” said Pandey.

However, he added that this is the last extension on the period of the rebate by the MCD. Moreover, the officials informed that the tax section will remain open on Sunday too for the tax submission. It is pertinent to mention here that the MCD had set the target of collecting Rs 50 crore this financial year but so far, the corporation has collected about Rs 27 crore only. The municipal commissioner stated that the corporation has sent bills to all the government and non-government organisations who have not deposited the tax so far and the collection will possibly increase by the end of this month.
