Considering the rise in dengue cases in Dehradun, the municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal has formed a team of 20 members to work for the prevention of dengue in the city. The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will also impose a minimum penalty of Rs 200 and Rs 500 on a house and commercial establishment respectively that has a favourable environment for the breeding of dengue-causing mosquitoes in their premises.
Goyal said on Tuesday that so far, the corporation has destroyed mosquito larvae in over 5,000 houses besides imposing challans on 20 establishments. Besides this, MCD has installed 100 small motor pumps and two vehicles in the city for carrying out fogging and spraying of larvicides. He said that to intensify their work towards dengue prevention, sanitation supervisors and ASHA workers will now conduct regular inspections of houses and commercial bodies on a daily basis to raise awareness among people and to ensure dengue-causing mosquitoes are not breeding in their premises.
The MCD will also initially impose a fine of Rs 200 and Rs 500 respectively but will fine Rs 500 and Rs 2,000 respectively the second time. A hefty amount will be imposed on frequent violations besides taking action against the offenders as per the rules. He said that ASHA workers have been working quite efficiently with MCD in the anti-dengue drive for some past years considering which the corporation will give ASHA workers and facilitators an allowance of Rs 1,500 and Rs 2,000 respectively during the campaign.
The commissioner said that the district education officer has also been directed to instruct school administration to ensure preventive measures against dengue are taken on school premises.
