The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has started the tender process to start biomining on the old trenching ground on Sahastradhara Road to dispose of about five lakh metric tonnes of legacy waste. The companies that participated in the tender showed the Dehradun municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar on Friday their presentations about how the waste will be processed through scientific methods as part of the tender process.
Kumar said that the corporation has floated tenders regarding the legacy waste disposal of this trenching ground but it was cancelled due to the high rates proposed by the agencies. The MCD has floated the tender again to choose the best agency to dispose of decades-old waste. He said that the project is expected to be completed with a budget of about Rs 27 crore that will be sought from the government. The MCD will bear the extra costs of the project. Once the biomining starts, the project is estimated to be completed in 18 months excluding factors like unfavourable weather conditions. Kumar said that MCD is yet to get the district magistrate Sonika’s approval to go ahead with this project. He also stated that MCD will work to dispose of Sheeshambada legacy waste in a similar manner.
“The Dehradun Smart City Limited (DSCL) is currently preparing the detailed project report to send it to the State administration for approval. The budget and time to process the waste are kept almost similar to the trenching ground project so far. The tender process will start soon after getting the approval from the government,” he added.
