The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is gearing up to remove encroachments on the riverbed of the Rispana river in Dehradun on a massive scale on the orders of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The corporation will constitute a task force consisting of the officials from the departments concerned to identify all the encroachments that were established after March 11, 2016, the Dehradun municipal commissioner Gaurav Kumar said. He told The Pioneer that the corporation will also coordinate with the Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited (UPCL) to seek information about those slum dwellers which got electricity connections after March 16. “After the task force identifies all encroachments on the river bed of the Rispana river, the corporation will send them notice as per the legal procedure to demolish their establishment on the encroached land and evacuate the space. Those who have issues with the notice can go to court and appeal against it. After the given time ends, the MCD will demolish all identified encroachments on the river bed of the Rispana river,” he said. He also informed that there is a hearing in NGT regarding the same case in a week. If the NGT directs to remove all the encroachments immediately, the corporation will act accordingly. We are bound to follow orders,” he said.
