MCD halts tenders, physical verification underway

Following a probe into alleged irregularities, the municipal commissioner Namami Bansal has temporarily halted all development work tenders and ordered a physical verification of each project.
According to officials, various development works were incorrectly included in the tender list. Some projects had already been completed by other departments while others had been executed by the municipal corporation itself. A verification committee has been formed to inspect each proposed project on-site to ensure transparency and accuracy.
The tender list for development works in all 100 wards under the mayor’s quota was released last week. Some councillors raised objections over discrepancies claiming that some wards had projects worth Rs 20–22 lakh while others included works worth Rs 70–80 lakh, creating an imbalance. Mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and Bansal ordered a detailed review of the tender list in response to the allegations.
During the inquiry, irregularities were found in some areas. Bansal said that geo-tagged photographs would be taken before work begins and after completion to ensure accountability. She added that appropriate action would be taken for repeated or irregularities in projects. She emphasised that further procedures will only begin after the verification is complete and a revised tender list is prepared.
