The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has launched a Swachhata war room to address garbage-related complaints within an hour. The Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and municipal commissioner Namami Bansal inaugurated the initiative stating that it aims to improve cleanliness in the city. Thapliyal said that through this war room, issues related to garbage collection and disposal will be resolved promptly. He informed that the corporation is also introducing sanitation patrolling for which the city has been divided into sub-zones for regular inspections by chief sanitation inspectors and sanitation officers. The five best-performing wards will be recognised as Swachhata Wards. Bansal also informed that the corporation will now acknowledge households practicing source segregation across the city. The MCD will present such locals with Swachhata Prahari badges to encourage others, she said. It is pertinent to mention here that these efforts are part of the city’s preparations for the Swachh Survekshan 2024 survey. A Central government team is expected to inspect Dehradun’s cleanliness initiatives in the coming days. Bansal stated that all necessary steps are being taken to improve the city’s ranking from its previous 68th position. The mayor also stated that MCD will be working to ensure the city ranks in top 50 cleanest cities in the survey. Besides this, Bansal also conducted a surprise inspection of the Renew Rispana campaign on Sunday. She inspected the areas including Rispana bridge, Rajivnagar, Mohini Road, MDDA Colony and Balbir Road, where cleaning operations were being carried out using JCBs and trolleys. During the inspection, she reviewed the physical progress of the work and assessed the cleaning activities along the Rispana River. She issued instructions to remove all Garbage Vulnerable Points (GVPs) from areas near the river and prevent waste dumping. She also informed that to strengthen waste collection in densely populated areas, 10 auto tippers and waste collection vehicles will be deployed for door-to-door waste management.
