MCD left to fend for itself for Global Investors Summit

Though the State government is spending crores of rupees to make the Global Investors Summit a big success, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has been left to fend for itself to manage the sanitation facilities across the city without any financial aid.
The Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has been given a budget of about Rs 80 crore as per the officials to carry out renovation and beautification works in the city ahead of the summit that is scheduled to be held on December 8 and 9 in Dehradun. However, the government has issued no such budget for MCD to carry out sanitation-related work during the summit.
A senior municipal official told The Pioneer that the corporation has received a letter from the State administration in which they asked MCD to use its revenue and resources to maintain the sanitation of the city in view of the summit. However no budget has been allocated to MCD to carry out sanitation work like some other departments, he claimed.
The corporation has divided all major city routes into 13 parts where it will deploy about 200 new sanitation workers to maintain sanitation during the day and night before and during the summit. Besides this, it will also deploy six supervisors and three sanitary inspectors from other civic bodies to ensure proper sanitation facilities during the summit.
The corporation will be spending from Rs 25 lakh to Rs 40 lakh for sanitation management during the summit. The MCD spends most of its revenue in carrying out sanitation works and despite that, it often faces criticism about the poor sanitation condition of the city. Besides this, MCD lacks sufficient sanitation workers to carry out sanitation related works in all 100 wards.
Despite this, the government has not given any budget to the corporation to ensure proper sanitation facilities during the summit. The senior official said the MCD is trying to make the best arrangements for the summit and will try to ensure that normal sanitation facilities are not affected due to it.
