MCD likely to extend the last date of property tax rebate
Though only two months are left for the financial year to end, the hotels and restaurant owners are still reluctant to deposit property tax in the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD).
The MCD officials informed that the owners are ready to deposit the tax of the last financial year but as their business is not doing well since March due to covid lockdowns, they have asked for relaxation in the tax. Many have also approached the Dehradun Mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ for the same but he has not provided any relief so far. According to the officials, the corporation is also facing huge loss due to it as a big part of its annual property tax collection comes from non-residential property taxpayers of the city. Recently, some counsellors also demanded from the municipal commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey to provide relaxation to such commercial establishments like hotels and restaurants which got drastically affected during Covid-19 pandemic.
Leader of opposition in the corporation, Vijendra Pal stated that when the business owners did not earn last year, how will they deposit the property tax? The MCD should provide relaxation as well as extend the date of rebate of 20 percent which is only uptill Jan end. On the extension of the 20 percent rebate on property tax after January 31, the commissioner said that the corporation is considering extending the date but the final decision will be taken on Saturday.
