The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has marked about 10,000 property tax defaulters in the city. The Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal informed that the tax section has identified a total of 9,433 buildings in eight wards so far for which the property tax is yet to be submitted. He said that the corporation has started sending notices to these defaulters and is already reminding them to deposit the property tax through electronic messages.

He added that this is the last opportunity for owners of such properties to fill their self-assessment form to deposit property tax or the corporation will recover tax by imposing four times of the penalty on the  property tax. He said that the officials are also carrying out the process of marking buildings in other wards too. There are a total of 92,377 residential properties and 12,754 non-residential properties registered under the corporation so far. The corporation has collected about Rs 15 crore in this financial year which is a good collection in comparison to the last two years as per the officials. The officials have informed that the online submission of tax is also better this year and considering the overall response so far, the corporation is expected to easily collect over Rs 40 crore property tax this financial year.
