The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) imposed a penalty of Rs one lakh on a restaurant The Brew Estate for open disposal of sewage, said the chief municipal health officer Dr Avinash Khanna. The sanitation team conducted an inspection of three restaurants on Rajpur Road after receiving complaints against them through various means. Khanna said that the team found during the inspection that sewage water was flowing behind Kochhar Colony in the open reportedly due to a faulty sewage treatment plant (STP) of the restaurant. According to the complainants, it has been several days that the sewage was flowing in the open but the management of the restaurant did not take any action to tackle the issue. Considering this, Khanna imposed a challan of Rs one lakh on the management on the spot and instructed them to repair the STP within a week. If they fail to do so, MCD will take action against them as per the rules, said Khanna. Similarly, the MCD team found in Pyramid Restaurant that the STP on its premises was not working. Besides this, the team also imposed a challan of Rs 50,000 on Piccolo Restaurant reportedly for the unhygienic condition of its kitchen. The team also instructed the restaurant management to make suitable arrangements to tackle the situation. Khanna said that they have asked the respective management of the restaurants to resolve the said issues within the stipulated time or else, legal action will be taken against them.
