MCD plans to start anti-plastic campaign

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is planning to start an anti-plastic campaign next week. Despite the reinstatement of the plastic ban by the State Government, there is no considerable decline in the use of single-use plastics in the city.

Considering this, the corporation is planning to start an anti-plastic campaign by next week. “We are very well aware of the increasing use of single-use plastics in the city but rather than imposing penalties on vendors and consumers, we will first conduct public awareness campaigns against plastic use.

We are planning to start it next week,” stated the municipal commissioner Abhishek Ruhela. He said that if the people are made aware of the reasons why plastic should not be used, it will motivate them more to restrict its use. However, he added that action will be taken against the offenders if they will continue to use plastics against the rules even after the awareness campaign.
