The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will take action against the unauthorised hoardings at various sites of the city for which the officials have started gathering information. In the recent executive meeting, the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ revealed that the corporation has floated the tenders for the installation of hoardings multiple times since this year but no company showed any interest in it due to the financial crisis during the Covid-19 pandemic. He had said that the MCD’s contract with the company which was authorised to install hoardings ended in March this year and since then, the corporation is receiving no revenue for hoarding installation.
Despite this, several hoardings have been installed across the city without any permission from the MCD officials. The municipal commissioner Abhishek Ruhela informed that some hoardings have been installed from the district information office (DIO) of Dehradun as the space at many sites was unused and for the remaining unauthorised hoardings, the corporation is collecting the data to take action. He said that the responsible parties will be charged for the space they used without the corporation’s permission. He also informed that the corporation has recently decided in the executive meeting to give a 20 per cent discount to the companies interested in the tender which will be floated next month. Till a new company gets selected through the tender, the MCD has decided to approach the old company to continue its work at the old rates, added Ruhela.
