In view of increasing Covid-19 positive cases in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is making preparations to sanitise all the 100 wards of the city during the weekend lockdown. Earlier, the senior officials of the corporation had stated that spraying one per cent sodium hypochlorite solution in open areas does not affect the Covid-19 virus as the dirt present on the surface inactivates the disinfectant as per the World Health Organisation (WHO) report. Considering this, the officials have stated that the corporation would not sanitise the public places of the city excessively like the last year.
However after the Dehradun district administration directed all the urban local bodies to sanitise their respective areas during the weekend lockdown, the corporation has started to prepare for the weekend sanitisation. As informed by the chief municipal health officer, Dr Kailash Joshi, the corporation regularly sanitises hospitals, health care facilities and Covid-19 affected areas like containment zones across the city and as per the direction of the administration, it would also sanitise 100 wards this weekend. He informed that the corporation would make teams to monitor the sanitisation process in each ward on Saturday and Sunday.
The corporation would sanitise the main public places of the first 50 wards on Saturday and another 50 wards on Sunday in the presence of the officials, informed Joshi. He also stated that the corporation would not sanitise the same ward twice this time as the corporation also has to sanitise about 50 containment zones in the city which might increase by the weekend.
