The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is all set to make history in the State by achieving its target of collecting property tax amounting to Rs 50 crore in the financial year 2022-23. The corporation this year has collected revenue amounting to over Rs 48 crore in property tax collection so far, said the municipal tax superintendent Dharmesh Painuly. He said that it is highly likely that the MCD will collect the revenue of Rs 50 crore by March 31. He said that there are about 1.15 lakh properties registered in the MCD at present, out of which taxes have been paid for about 70,000 so far.
The corporation had collected about Rs 45 crore in the last financial year and nearly 60,000 taxpayers deposited the tax. Painuly said that this is the first time in the past three years that tax submission was not affected due to Covid-19. Besides this, the corporation also strengthened its digital payments mode online as well as in MCD premises this year besides revamping its website to make it more user-friendly.
He said that such steps have made it easier for the public to deposit tax, which can be proved from the fact that tax of about Rs three crore was deposited online in MCD this year, which was not even half till last year. Teams were also formed this month in the corporation by municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal to recover property tax of several non-residential buildings of the city that have been pending for years. Painuly said that the rate of tax submission has increased considerably this month and it is highly likely that MCD would collect property tax of over Rs 50 crore in 2022-23.
