The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has recovered property tax of Rs 20 crore in the past two months. This is the first time the corporation has collected such a huge amount in such a short period, said the municipal tax superintendent Dharmesh Painuly. The corporation collected a property tax of over Rs 52 crore in the last financial year which is the maximum revenue collection done by the tax section so far.
The corporation this year is also making efforts to collect maximum revenue via the property tax, especially from non-residential properties of the city as they constitute a large part of the revenue. Painuly said that the corporation has sent nearly 3,500 bills to non-residential establishments since April and has collected revenue of more than Rs 20 crore. He said that the corporation made several changes last year like making the website user-friendly for tax submission and introducing a digital mode of payments in MCD premises to ensure easy and safe transactions that immensely helped in tax collection through online and offline modes.
This has continued to help in tax collection this financial year too. He said that the Geographic Information System (GIS) based survey of all buildings has also been completed in 55 wards out of 100 and the remaining are expected to be finished this year too. He said that the tax section will also use this data from 55 wards to send notices to property tax defaulters. He said that with the completion of the GIS-based survey, the property tax collection process will be more transparent for taxpayers as well as the officials. All data will be made available to the online portal of the urban development directorate for a quick assessment and appropriate calculation of property tax after the completion of the survey, added Painuly.
