MCD releases first installment to 82 beneficiaries under PMAY-U 2.0

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Tuesday released the first installment of financial assistance to beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana–Urban 2.0 (PMAY-U 2.0). The installment was released during a programme held under the Government of India’s Housing for All mission.

Social Development specialist Ramesh Chauhan said that under the Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC) component for individual house construction, Rs 20,000 each was transferred to 82 beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Out of the 88 beneficiaries approved by the Government of India, a total amount of Rs 16.40 lakh was released during the programme.

The installment was formally released by mayor Saurabh Thapliyal. Beneficiaries were also briefed about the procedures and guidelines related to the construction of houses under the scheme. He said that under PMAY-U 2.0, financial assistance of Rs 2.75 lakh per beneficiary has been approved by the Government of India for 88 economically weaker families in Dehradun district. The total sanctioned grant for the construction of permanent houses amounts to Rs 2.42 crore, out of which Rs 88 lakh has already been received by the municipal corporation.

Thapliyal congratulated the beneficiaries and said that the scheme will help many families fulfill their dream of owning a permanent house. He added that houses constructed under the scheme will include basic facilities and will improve the living standards of beneficiaries.

Municipal commissioner Namami Bansal said that the targets under the PMAY-U housing scheme will be completed within the stipulated time. Officials and staff associated with the housing scheme of the municipal corporation were present during the programme.
