The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) started the operation of 15 electric garbage vehicles- auto trippers, on Monday, which will mainly operate in slums near Rispana and Bindal rivers to collect garbage. Dehradun mayor Saurabh Thapliyal and municipal commissioner Namami Bansal flagged off these auto trippers from the MCD premises on Monday.
Thapliyal said that these trippers are movable waste stations which will be used to prevent the blatant dumping of garbage by locals in the rivers and other public places. He said, “This initiative is a significant step towards the city’s sanitation goals and will contribute to the MCD’s Swachchh Survekshan efforts.” Bansal also stated that these vehicles are being operated by MCD and not some private agencies. Due to this, nobody has to pay any charges to dump garbage via these moving stations.
She further informed that MCD is also conducting a cleanliness awareness campaign in the residential areas surrounding the Rispana river to raise awareness among people against garbage dumping in public places. “We are currently focussing on sensitising people about the blatant garbage dumping in public areas, especially in rivers. The corporation will soon start taking action against guilty parties under relevant sections. We will also consider increasing the number of such auto trippers in the future to further strengthen the city’s waste management system,” Bansal added.
Besides this, MCD has also launched a Swachchhata war room on Saturday to address garbage-related complaints within an hour. Bansal said that the corporation has received a few complaints in the past two days. “People can complain to MCD at 18001804571 regarding sanitation related issues and the team will try their best to address it within an hour. The sanitation teams will also go on patrolling and report about such issues to the Swachchhata war room that will take necessary action within an hour,” she added.
