MCD takes prompt action after dog bite complaints

PIONEER EDGE NEWS SERVICE/Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) acted promptly and captured a stray dog in the Seemadwar area after receiving complaints about the canine reportedly biting a number of people. The local councillor sought action from the corporation on Friday stating that the dog had allegedly bitten about 40 persons in the area, causing fear in the public. The officials said that no written complaints, medical records or official reports have been received to confirm these numbers.

Senior municipal veterinary officer, Dr Varun Agarwal said that after receiving information about the incidents, the municipal animal control team reached the area and captured the dog. As a precaution, the dog has been placed under observation and kept in isolation for 10 days at the Animal Birth Control (ABC) centre. The dog is currently undergoing medical examination and treatment with the process being carried out as per prescribed protocols and animal welfare norms, he added.

The civic body advised residents that anyone bitten by a dog should immediately seek treatment at the nearest health facility and submit a written complaint at the MCD to ensure proper records and follow-up action. The officials further said that the MCD is monitoring stray dogs in all the municipal wards. Dog squads regularly conduct catching, sterilisation and treatment drives, the officials added.
