MCD teams to confront pet owners without registrations
Becoming more stringent towards the registration of pet dogs in the city, the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will commence inspection of dog licenses from January 11. The officials stated that the motive of this inspection is to aware locals about the registration procedure rather than just penalising them for not registering the dogs with the corporation.
Informing this, the senior veterinary officer of the corporation Dr DC Tiwari said that the corporation will work in multiple teams in the city, especially during early mornings and evenings when the owners take their dogs out for a stroll. “We are not initiating this inspection to penalise people but to make them aware about the pet dog license registrations. We have found out that many locals are still not aware of the procedure of the registrations and we aim to change that,” said Tiwari.
According to him, about 2,000 dogs have been registered in MCD this financial year which is the highest number of registrations in the corporation ever. He stated that initially those who do not hold the license will be warned and informed about the same. The team will get the details from such owners and they will be provided at least two days to register their dogs but if they fail to do so, the MCD will send them a notice, informed Tiwari. He said that after the first warning, the corporation will impose a minimum fine of Rs 500 which would go higher up to Rs 5000 if the owners would not register the dogs after multiple warnings.
Meanwhile, Tiwari also pointed out that people are progressively becoming aware of registrations in the city in the last few months. He said that around 70 people arrive in MCD every day for pet dog license registrations and so far, the corporation has collected about Rs four lakhs with approximately 2000 registrations.
