The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) on Wednesday terminated an outsourced employee Upendra Thapa with immediate effect following allegations of misconduct and indiscipline inside the office premises. The action was approved by Dehradun municipal commissioner Alok Kumar Pandey.

Sharing details, the officials said that Thapa had been employed through an outsourcing agency and was originally posted in the record room before being assigned to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls section. The corporation had reportedly received several complaints against him in the past regarding unauthorised absence from duty and negligence in work.

Recounting Wednesday’s incident that led to his termination, the officials said that Thapa had entered the chamber of the assistant municipal commissioner in an intoxicated state and behaved inappropriately, disrupting official work. Taking a serious note of the incident, the municipal commissioner directed that strict action be taken against him.

Defending the action, Pandey said that maintaining discipline inside government offices is a priority and any act which affects the dignity of officers and employees would not be tolerated. “The action reflects the corporation’s commitment to ensuring accountability and maintaining a professional work environment,” he noted.
