The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will soon impose increased charges for garbage collection from non-residential properties across the city. The health section of the corporation had proposed an increase in the garbage collection service charges for residential and commercial buildings in the last board meeting in order to increase the MCD’s revenue.
The councillors had strongly opposed the hike in the garbage collection service charges from homes after which, the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ ordered the formation of a committee to take a decision on the fee hike of commercial premises. The committee members under the chairmanship of additional municipal commissioner Jagdish Lal held a meeting on Saturday and decided to increase the charges in the presence of councillors. According to municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal, the present service charges which are currently being recovered by the corporation were fixed in 2010.
The health section has proposed to increase the service charge in 2019 as well but the board did not approve it at that time. The officials said that the committee has proposed new charges for apartment buildings and commercial buildings which will be implemented soon. The committee has decided to charge Rs 5,000 monthly for a building with up to 100 apartments and Rs 10,000 for a building with over 100 apartments. Monthly service charges for small, medium and large restaurants would be Rs 300, Rs 600 and Rs 2,000 respectively. For hotels and Dharamshalas, MCD would charge Rs 1,000 to 5,000 and Rs 200 per month respectively.
The MCD would charge Rs 1,500 for Baraat Ghar, Rs 400 for bakery and Rs 200 to Rs 1,000 for offices depending on the number of employees working there. Each vegetable and fruit vendor will be charged Rs 300 per month. A residential school will be charged between Rs 2,000 to Rs 4,000 as per the number of students and faculties residing there. A hospital would be charged monthly between Rs 1,000 to 5,000 depending on the number of beds. A pathology lab will be charged from Rs 200 to 800. Shops and malls will be charged between Rs 100 to Rs 5,000 and a factory will be charged between Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 every month. Most of the charges are expected to be doubled once the MCD implements these new charges in the city.
