MCD to increase user charge for garbage collection service from April 1

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has decided to increase user charges for door-to-door garbage collection from April 1. The new user charge will be recovered as per the category of commercial establishments and residential areas. The MCD has increased the charges from double to five times in various categories of commercial establishments.
The municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal said that the corporation will also change its strategy to collect charges after getting several complaints of locals being duped in the name of recovering user charges. He said that MCD will collect fees from commercial establishments digitally only. Locals of residential colonies will be allowed to pay cash and would get an electronically generated receipt to prevent scamming by fraudsters. It will also make the teg collection process more transparent. He said that the monthly user charge for people living the below poverty line will be Rs 30.
The charge for general houses has been increased from Rs 50 to Rs 70. The corporation has increased charges for small, medium and big restaurants to Rs 300, Rs 600 and Rs 2,000 respectively. The corporation has also determined user charges for hotels and offices on the basis of the number of beds and the number of employees working there respectively. Besides this, residential societies with up to 40 flats will pay Rs 2,000 while societies with 40 to 100 flats will have to pay Rs 5,000 as user charge every month. Societies with more than 100 flats will be charged Rs 10,000 as user charge.
