In preparation for Swachh Survekshan 2024 (SS24), the Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) has announced a comprehensive 100 Wards 100 Days campaign to raise awareness about sanitation and waste management among residents. The two-month-long initiative aims to engage locals on crucial practices like waste segregation, recycling and composting, the Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal said.
Talking about the campaign while interacting with mediapersons on Tuesday, she said that the Centre’s Swachh Survekshan team is expected to conduct inspections in the city within the next two to three months. “The SS24 process got slightly delayed this year due to elections. The MCD will now focus on this extensive campaign across all 100 wards to ensure Dehradun performs well in the survey. The campaign will start soon after the nomination filing process for civic bodies elections will end,” she said.
Bansal said that the campaign will involve community outreach and educational programmes to encourage better waste management practices and improve overall cleanliness in the city. She emphasised that active participation from locals is essential to enhance the city’s sanitation standards and secure a higher ranking in the Swachh Survekshan assessment. Through this initiative, the MCD hopes to promote sustainable waste management habits, ensure cleaner public spaces and foster civic responsibility among residents, paving the way for a cleaner and greener Dehradun, she added.
