The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will organise a massive rally to participate in Swachchh Amrit Mahotsav, a cleanliness mission to be commenced by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) on September 17. The Dehradun mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ said that this mission is a step in taking forward the vision of garbage free cities of Prime Minister Narendra Modi which is scheduled to be launched on his birthday tomorrow. The corporation will also celebrate the completion of eight years of Swachchh Bharat Mission on Gandhi Jayanti this year too.
The officials informed that the fight against waste in the form of Indian Swachhata League will be started under Swachchh Amrit Mahotsav and several cities from across the country have registered online for this challenge too. They stated that a massive rally will be organised in MCD premises on Saturday at 9 AM and about 1,000 people are expected to participate in it. The participants and the MCD team members will take out the rally to the streets and organise an awareness programme to raise awareness on making Dehradun a garbage free city. The rally will be flagged off by the mayor and municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal. The commissioner has appealed to locals including youth and senior citizens to register themselves on the online portal https://innovateindia.mygov.in/swachhyouthrally/ to participate in the activities under the Swachh Amrit Mahotsav to build a garbage free city.
