The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will organise a wall painting competition from March 5 to increase public participation in Swachchh Survekshan 2023 conducted by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).  The Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal said that all the cities are expected to promote the message of a clean and beautiful city by ensuring the involvement of citizens and motivating them to do their best in SS23.

Considering this, he added, the corporation has decided to conduct a wall painting competition from March 5 to 15. The theme of the competition is ‘Love for the City Dehradun’ through which artists will get a chance to depict the culture, heritage and landscape of Dehradun through art. All artists belonging to Dehradun can participate in this competition, stated the commissioner. “The MCD would also reward the winner with Rs one lakh. Other participants will also get rewards. The last date to register for the competition is February 28 and the artist registered for the competition will get 10 days from March 5 to showcase their talent through wall paintings in the city,” said Goyal. He also informed that 10 artists have already registered to participate in the competition. He said that all the defaced and discoloured walls of the city will soon be covered through beautiful wall paintings and appealed to all citizens to respect the art of these artists by cooperating in keeping those walls safe and clean. The winners will be announced on March 15 by the mayor Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama’ and the commissioner.

Goyal said that MCD is preparing to get into the top 50 cleanest cities of the country in SS23 which is not possible without citizens’ participation. He said that MCD has been making consistent improvements in Swacch Survekshan editions for the past three years and with such initiatives, the city is expected to get into the top 50 cleanest cities from 69th position last year.
