The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will start sending bills and notices to all defaulters of property tax from next week. The corporation has so far collected about Rs 32 crore against the target of collecting Rs 70 crore in the current financial year. In the past eight months, the tax section has sent 8,000 bills for property tax submission most of which include non-residential property owners, said the municipal tax superintendent Dharmesh Painuly. He said that the tax collection process is going better than the previous years as the corporation has already collected about Rs 32 crore since April. In the last financial year, MCD collected property tax of over Rs 52 crore which was the maximum collection by a municipal body in the State. Since the corporation has improved its online tax submission services, people of Dehradun living across the country and abroad are depositing the property tax easily and regularly, said Painuly. He said that the corporation also set up tax submission camps in various wards to ensure those who cannot deposit the tax online or come to MCD premises can submit the tax easily. He said that the corporation will start sending bills of property tax to non-residential property owners from next week. Since the amount of property tax on the non residential properties is higher the Corporation is focusing on tax collection from such properties. Also, residential property owners submit their property tax regularly as compared to non-residential property owners. He said that the corporation expects to collect property tax of Rs 70 crore this financial year. Besides this, Painuly also informed that the corporation has not yet started the Geographic Information System (GIS) based survey for property tax calculation and collection. The GIS mapping work is expected to take a few more months to complete, he added.
