The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) is gearing up to establish two Material Recovery Facilities (MRFs) in Dehradun to ensure proper segregation and disposal of garbage in the wards managed by Sunlight and Bhargava companies. A senior municipal official informed that the corporation has prepared detailed project reports (DPRs) of two MRF centres proposed to be established in the city. One of them has been sent to the State administration for approval while the second one will be sent soon as stated by the official. He stated that these centres will be managed by Sunlight and Bhargava companies as they must have a facility to properly segregate and dispose of the garbage of the wards from where they collect garbage as per their agreement with the MCD.
The official stated that the corporation has also been deducting 30 per cent from the monthly payments of these companies for not having a facility as per the agreement. A DPR has been sent to set up an MRF in the Mothrowala area which is expected to be approved by the administration possibly in two months. The other MRF centre is proposed to be set up near Sahastradhara Road and the corporation will be sending its DPR soon too, added the official. The corporation also recently claimed to have taken 20 wards back from Ramky Enviro Engineers Limited (REEL) which has been managing a total of 69 wards but now is left with only 49. The MCD handed over 10 wards each to Sunlight and Bhargava companies as REEL has agreed to carry out a swift transition of its duties till MCD makes proper arrangements to manage the sanitation facilities. The officials said that the corporation will distribute the responsibility of 49 wards in the coming days as the tender floated to appoint a new company will be opened this week.
The officials said that MRF facilities established locally will reduce the work pressure on Sheeshambada solid waste management and recycling plant too and they are certain that the city will have two working MRFs by the end of this year.
