MCD to start anti-dengue drive to check disease

PIONEER NEWS SERVICE | Dehradun

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) will start a citywide fogging campaign from Wednesday after 15 dengue cases were reported in two hospitals of Dehradun this week. The campaign will cover all municipal wards and aims to control the spread of dengue by targeting areas with stagnant water.

According to Dehradun municipal commissioner Namami Bansal, the campaign had earlier been planned to start on April 16. “While fogging usually begins in May, sanitation teams had already started fogging in certain areas from March. The corporation will now start a full-fledged campaign. We have formed a work schedule for this month and assigned duties to officials concerned to ensure that the duties are properly discharged,” she said.

Bansal further stated that the focus will be on areas where mosquito breeding is likely to occur. She said that the corporation will also use additional vehicles for fogging. The MCD will also use garbage collection vehicles to spread information about steps to prevent dengue.

Bansal also said that the corporation will soon commence spraying larvicide to kill the mosquito larvae which result in diseases like dengue. Further changes and improvements found necessary will be made further as per the requirement. The municipal commissioner also urged residents to remove stagnant water from their surroundings and cooperate with the municipal teams.
